Thread together: A Sewing Journey with Crafty Bruha
So I need to cover all my bases by announcing Crafty Bruha’s Thread Together Community on all my platforms & since journaling is my fave platform I have to give y’all the real run down.
Straight up, I need quality control & I’m looking for people that range from sizes XXS-7XL with any level of sewing experience. Like completely new to seasoned sewists. This first round of testing also needs to be done within the next couple weeks so that I can get these patterns out onto the market asap. You may have noticed the shop is already published but it’s in testing mode so you can’t actually buy anything.
It feels weird to ask people for help in this way, but I think it’s a really good way for me to build a sewing community because I also want to offer exclusive tutorials & access to people who are truly interested in learning how to sew & make their own clothes.
The flex of telling people you made your own clothes after getting hit with a “where did you get that” is a nice little hit of dopamine. Like I’m gonna be rocking clothes I made all summer, hell the rest of my life. Y’all are gonna be sick of me! 😝 Or you can join me and we can flex together.
The sewing patterns range from sizes XXS-7XL. When I’m drafting my pattern I am using a more petite curvy model. A lot of the women I surround myself with aren’t super tall & they’re a little curvier. Even though I am targeting a shorter, curvier woman, I’m not leaving the tall or skinny gworls hanging, I will show you how to adjust patterns to fit your size.
I realize this might be a lot of people’s first time sewing & I want to really walk people through the things I wish I learned when I first dabbled in home sewing patterns. My whole sewing experience has been a little backwards, I learned how to draft patterns like they do in the fashion industry before I even opened a home sewing pattern. Yup, jumped right in. When I did start dabbling into home sewing patterns it was different than what I learned in school. Even home sewing can be overwhelming, but I want to help you feel encouraged about your sewing journey because figuring out where to even start can be a lot too. I’m going to give you a place to start.
There’s a couple things you gotta do before you even step or sit in front of your machine and get sewing. So in these early weeks I’m going to start providing bits of resources that can help you get started. Stuff like what you absolutely need in your sewing kit, where you can find sewing goodies & how to adjust a pattern to fit you.
So even if you don’t have sewing stuff yet, you can pull a me, get super into starting a new hobby and jump right into getting all the goodies. I know, we’re in unpredictable times right now but sewing has really helped ground me these past few months. Plus it’s a great skill to pick up, everyone wears clothes. There’s a reason they had Home Economics classes and sewing was part of that. Some skills are timeless
Am I spending this journal hoping to convince you to learn to sew, yes! You’ll get a free pattern & learn how to sew. So if you are ready to start learning now then please sign up to be a pattern tester. Let’s get this sewing journey started!
If you’re busy right now or a little hesitant and just want to observe for now you’re welcome to that too. I’ll have more rounds of testing for new patterns so make sure I have your email because my email contacts get first dibs.
